An Evening to Support The Aslan Project

Transforming Pediatric Cancer Care in Low-Income Countries

The Aslan Project is a Washington, DC-based non-profit organization that seeks to address inequalities in global pediatric cancer care by sharing our knowledge and expertise – teaching health professionals in low-resource settings to recognize childhood cancers early, diagnose them correctly, and treat them effectively and compassionately using affordable drugs, appropriate treatment regimens, and proper palliation.

Since 2012, The Aslan Project has spearheaded the development of a comprehensive pediatric cancer health system in Ethiopia, piloting the country’s first pediatric cancer program at Tikur Anbessa Specialized Hospital in Addis Ababa. Aslan has since exported this successful model to Jimma University Medical Center in southwestern Ethiopia, which celebrated the first anniversary of its dedicated pediatric cancer unit in August 2017. Aslan also is honored to be working with the Ethiopian Ministry of Health to craft the country’s first National Cancer Control Plan for Pediatric Cancer, as well as with Gertrude Children’s Hospital in Nairobi, Kenya to assist in the development of its pediatric cancer program under the leadership of Aslan pediatric hematology/oncology fellow, Dr. Doreen Karimi Mutua.

We invite you join us as we celebrate these and other achievements in furtherance of our mission on Monday, June 4, 2018 at 6:30 PM at the Red Rooster with hors d'oeuvres, a buffet dinner, and a program presentation.
